United Readers with United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra

In this episode of Community Conversation for Northeast Nevada, Megan Ray sits down with Krystal Nevada, Senior Director for United Readers with United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra, to talk about the work being done to support students throughout Elko County. We discuss United Readers, an elementary school intervention program providing literacy and math support within the Elko County School District, the important role of AmeriCorps mentors, current recruitment efforts, and how additional academic support can help students build skills and confidence. Krystal also introduces United Pathways, a new youth mental health initiative launching specifically in Elko County, and shares how the program aims to strengthen support for local young people, families, schools, and the community.
